Work on Ann's Prophecy, with large floating rectangles, eventually lead to a narrow, more elongated shape. Placed next to one another, pickets came to mind, more generally, "FENCING". In thinking about fences (pickets, rails, etc.) in the more literal sense, what do they do?
One could easily convey/portray human conditions, some positive, some negative, some confining, some liberating. Due to the physical construction of a fence, these works were composed to hang either horizontally or vertically, depending on the viewer's interaction with perceived content.
